  • Best Way to create a building grid?

I am creating an application that will work by a user entering a number into a textbox... its looks up this number, uses it to update a record in my database.
I then need a growing grid of the records that it updated.
I know how to make a "Control" application to do the first part.... and I know how to make a Grid application to do the 2nd part... but how could I keep them both within the same application or on the same screen? As simple as possible.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

      I'd rather use a plain master/detail.

        Thanks for the pointers.
I will try both and see what works best for my application.

Right, but why not use a form? Makes life much easier.

I think you are right jsb.... the form with the details is really nice looking. How do I get the details to refresh? Currently I have the code that updates the DB in the "OnValidateSuccess" event... and it works, but I have to refresh the page to get the details to update.
Thanks so much for all the help.

I figured out the refresh... I just redirect to the page I am on at the end of the event. Now Im having an issue with the fact that I don't really want to display any records in the "Master" form. If I try to remove the record navigation from the toolbar it stops the form from functioning.
How can I display a form that doesn't have a record assigned to it?
This is very close to working exactly how I would like.
                Thanks!

How about using blocks, so you can hide the stuff you don't need.

Its the button in the toolbar that I want to hide. I don't think I can do that in a block.

                        Ok, here is the deal.

Create master form and detail grid on the same table. Don't pass any parameter.
Create all the fields you need like you did with the control application.
Create a new block on the form.
Go to 'Field positioning' and remove all the form fields but the custom fields.
Move the grid to the above created block.
Remove all buttons from the toolbar of the form except 'First' and those you need.
Hide the 'First' button in the onScriptInit event of the form.
Put your php code in the onValidateSuccess.

                        Voilŕ.
